As the Abu Dhabi Race Village opens its doors and the six other racing teams begin to arrive in port, Team Vestas Wind is making an unexpected stopover after spending time with sponsors and Volvo Ocean Race officials.
Crew members are all making the bittersweet journey home to spend some time with their loved ones ahead of returning to Abu Dhabi post-Christmas to engage with key stakeholders, fellow teams, and update with news on Team Vestas Wind’s participation in following legs of the Race.
Across the six countries they can call home, our nine-man Team have partners, parents, children, brothers and sisters waiting to welcome them. With five fathers in the crew – and no less than 11 children between them – Christmas will surely be slightly different than planned.
Team Vestas’ extended family has been a pillar of support to our sailors. Many have years of experience with the race, others are new to the game. Nonetheless, we thank each and every one of our family and friends for their continued encouragement, wish them a happy festive season with their loved ones, and look forward to seeing each other in Abu Dhabi after Christmas.
Meanwhile, this weekend, shore manager Neil Cox accompanied by his team will take advantage of stable weather conditions and return to the Cargados Carajos Shoals to continue the clean-up of the reef. Team Vestas Wind and Vestas are committed to removing the Vestas Wind from the shoals and restoring the area. We expect to give you a more detailed update from the remote islands in the near future.
