In 1985 Tony Rae was sailing in the Whitbread yacht race, today’s Volvo Ocean Race. His girlfriend Lynda was celebrating her 21st birthday. Today, twenty nine years later, on the 31st of October, Tony’s wife Lynda Rae celebrates her 50th birthday.
The same woman he loves 29 years later is having a party in the same house, with the same notable absence of her husband. Tony explained he met a woman while (surprise) on a sailing trip close to New Years Eve, 1983. Thirty one years later, this couple has faced four round the world races, seven America’s Cups and have somewhere in between managed to raise two beautiful daughters. The youngest Katie is currently studying Marketing and the oldest Annaleisha works as onshore media officer with the women’s VOR entry SCA.
It’s amazing that all these years two milestone birthdays is when Tony’s at sea. He told me this is how it’s always been: "My wife and kids don’t know anything different". I guess for a more traditional family unit, to operate this may be a tad strange, certainly different, but to this family it’s simply their life. They have grown up, raises kids, and made their lives around sailing.
You only have one life, are you making the most of it? This family certainly does.
We wish you Lynda a happy birthday from all of us on Team Vestas Wind!
