It's a different sort of game we play now. Last week I was able to update you from the comfort of a stable platform at Vestas offices in Copenhagen. It was warm, dry and something I could get used to. This week, however, I'm on the ground in Italy chasing after the boat and struggling to find a good internet connection!
One thing both northern Italy and Copenhagen have in common is the weather – the snow has been falling steadily – a dramatic change from the sun-soaked shores of Abu Dhabi, Cape Town and Alicante, and certainly nothing like anything we could expect on board the Vestas Wind.
Next stop? Believe it or not, we've just arrived in the foothills of the Alps in Bergamo, Italy where Persico Marine will assess and commence work to repair our home, and we will work on strengthening our team from the foundations upwards.
We now have a race on in many terms of the word, but it's a change in perspective. We're now in a race to rejoin the Race. Working together with our Commercial, Shore and Sailing teams, our plans have been reinvented. My main goal is to continue to share our story and bring you progress updates from the boat and team. For now, it will be somewhat land-based with some on-water activities, but you'll have to stay tuned for our plans in the coming weeks.
We enter a period of time for which history serves no purpose. We have no guide, we will write our own path in the history books. This is an exciting new chapter for Team Vestas Wind.
Stay tuned to the social channels of the land people (a collective which I also now belong to) for updates on our progress.
Your support helps us build a new story, a new future, a happy future. Thank you for being a part of this.
